"The justice of Turkish courts is at a level that has set an example for the whole world"

"The bias of European institutions turns decisions into a piece of paper and creates frustration in societies striving for European values."

According to the e-huquq.az, the statement was made by political scientist Yusif Bagirzadeh, commenting on the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to release former PDP co-chair Saladin Demirtas immediately.

He said that the decision on Demirtas is another lever of European political pressure on Turkey:

“There are many facts about Demirtas’s guilt. It is well known that he closely cooperates with the PKK, communicates with terrorist leaders and propagandizes the terrorist organization, as well as his activities to divide Turkey. There are also telephone conversations proving Demirtas's guilt. Without taking into account these arguments, the decision on Demirtas is undoubtedly more political than legal. Of course, the decisions of the European Court cannot be binding on Turkey. The justice of the Turkish courts is at a level that has set an example to the whole world. Therefore, regardless of everything, the final decision on Demirtas will be made by the Turkish justice system"

The political scientist noted that Europe makes such decisions based on its attitude to one country or another, not on the facts: “For example, when Spain arrested separatist Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, the whole of Europe, including the European Court of Human Rights, did not object to the decision, but justified it by demonstrating that there was no place for separatism in Europe. However, when it comes to Turkey or Azerbaijan, for some reason, European institutions show the opposite position and support the separatists ."
