Lawyers celebrate professional holiday in Azerbaijan

Today is the professional holiday of lawyers in Azerbaijan.

E-huquq.az reports that according to the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated December 25, 2019, December 28 is marked as "Lawyer's Day".

The Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established as a non-governmental, independent, self-governing organization, which includes all lawyers.

The Bar Association is the legitimate successor of the Bar Association operating under the “Regulations on Advocacy of the Azerbaijan SSR” approved by the Law of the Azerbaijan SSR dated November 13, 1980.

Main duty

The main duty of the Bar Association is to protect the rights and freedoms of every person, the interests protected by law, to provide them with professional, high quality, honest legal assistance, to raise the prestige of the legal profession.

Activity

The organization and activity of the Bar Association shall be determined by the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Advocates and Advocacy” and the Charter of the Bar Association adopted in accordance with it.

Members

Currently, the number of members of the Bar Association operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan is 1791 people. The number of lawyers operating in the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan is 395, of which 95 are engaged in individual advocacy. The number of lawyers operating in the capital is 1,396, of which 103 are engaged in individual advocacy. There are also 56 Bar Associations in Baku and 37 in the regions.

Dynamics of increase in the number of lawyers
As for the increase dynamics of the number of lawyers, before the establishment of the new Bar Association in November 2004, the number of lawyers was 370. The number of those admitted in 2005 was 151 (126 out of 359 candidates were admitted to the Board after passing the qualification exams). The number of admissions in 2006 was 24, 235 in 2007 (235 out of 441 candidates were admitted to the Board after passing the qualification exams), 27 in 2008, 71 in 2009 (67 out of 506 candidates were qualified). was admitted to the Board after passing the exams), 15 in 2010, 9 in 2011 and 121 in 2012 (122 out of 531 candidates were admitted to the Board after passing the specialty exams), 12 in 2013, There were 149 in 2014, 12 in 2015, 22 in 2016, 17 in 2017, and 553 in 2018.
It should be noted that the members of the Bar Association also participated in the 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27 to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with high professionalism and courage.

On the occasion of the professional holiday on December 28, a decision was made to award these 7 lawyers with "100th anniversary of Azerbaijani advocacy" jubilee badges and to pay an additional 500 AZN to their families.
It should be noted that from the first days of the fighting, according to the decision of the Presidium, until the dismissal of our lawyers involved in military mobilization in connection with the "Patriotic War", their families were paid 500 AZN per month, their lawyers were released from membership fees. It was decided to recommend to the law enforcement agencies, as well as to instruct the law enforcement agencies to entrust the work of the mobilized lawyers to other lawyers free of charge.
