"The success of advocacy in Azerbaijan, the real unity of lawyers is of great concern to some circles, I wonder why?"
According to the e-huquq.az, this statement was made by the chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association Anar Bagirov. According to him, lately, some circles have been pursuing biased campaign against the Board. Apparently, some circles abroad have been pursuing biased “black PR” campaign misconceived several lawyers who have had legal disputes with the Bar Association for the last 10 years, pointing to the restriction of the institution of representation from 2018 as one of the main charges against us. They do not want to see the reforms and successes in the field of advocacy in the country lately, which are welcomed by our society. They represent the Azerbaijani advocacy as a monster organization. A person who does not know the real situation will think that there is no independent advocacy in Azerbaijan. As the legally and legitimately elected chairman of the Independent Bar Association, on behalf of our lawyers, I strongly condemn such attempts, and consider them disrespectful to the glorious country's lawyers and advocates.”
Bagirov noted that the necessary conditions were created for the development of advocacy in Azerbaijan and noted that the leadership of the Presidium reacted immediately to all negative cases.
“Azerbaijan is one of the few countries where there are no cases of arrests, physical violence or searches of lawyers in connection with their activities. Our lawyers are well aware that when such attempts are made, the leadership of the Presidium takes prevents all necessary measures to protect lawyers. We do not do it for the PR, we do not share it, we just perform our duties, we try to justify the confidence of lawyers”, - he said.
The chairman of the board said that the people were silent at a time when advocacy was underdeveloped and did not take any steps in this regard.
"At a time when the situation in the field of advocacy was really difficult, in the years when the existence of advocacy as a trade union was not felt, where and what were these organizations engaged in, why were they silent?"- A. Bagirova added.
