As you know, the government of Azerbaijan has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights with a complaint about the deaths of civilians as a result of war crimes committed by Armenia, casualties, deterioration of the residential buildings, private houses and other civilian facilities. The killing of civilians during armed conflict is a gross violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law as a whole. The war crimes committed by Armenia must be legally assessed and the military-political leadership of the hostile country must be punished at the international level. In this regard, the statement to the European Court is of particular importance.
The whole world is already aware that the vandalism of Armenian terrorists knows no borders and continues to take on an increasingly ugly image. The attack on Barda with special destructive cluster bombs, the use of which was banned after Ganja, killed 21 people and seriously injured about 70 people is a clear example of this. The number of civilians killed by Armenian terrorists and vandals since September 27 has reached 100. But, unfortunately, many influential countries and international organizations remain silent despite these war crimes. In some cases, they are pro-Armenian.
During the counter-offensive launched by Armenia in response to the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan on September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan fully and unconditionally complies with its obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, without any civilian casualties and civilian facilities are not targeted.
I hope that the European Court will make a fair decision on the appeal of Azerbaijan based on the requirements of international law, since the truth is clear and it will not be a tool for Armenia's political games.
As the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, said, we are implementing UN Security Council resolutions alone. The United Nations, its Charter and international law are important and indispensable tools for maintaining peace and security in the world and strengthening international cooperation. Azerbaijan remains committed to international law in its struggle for internationally recognized territorial integrity, but strives for justice and lasting peace in the region and I can say with confidence that the victory in this struggle for truth will be ours!
