"The state should move to new programs for the development of the advocacy system"

"The financial and social security of lawyers should be strong. Otherwise, the number of professionals in this field will be few"

This statement was made by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, MP Zahid Oruj in an interview with e-huquq.az.

He considers that the amount of money paid to a lawyer for legal aid provided at the expense of the state should be increased: "Under the leadership of the Chairman of the Bar Association Anar Baghirov, serious work is being done in our country to increase the prestige of advocacy. As in Western countries, important measures are being taken in Azerbaijan to ensure that lawyers play an important role in society. I think that in order to increase the effectiveness of these measures, the state should move to new programs for the development of the advocacy system. The program should also cover the material and social security of lawyers. Because today there is a need to increase the amount of money paid to lawyers for legal aid provided at the expense of the state. In my opinion, a differential approach should be applied in this matter. Depending on the work, the lower and upper limits of the amounts should be determined, and this amount should be many times higher than now."

Oruj said that there is a need to increase the number of lawyers in Azerbaijan, but the lack of lawyers in our country is a problem: "The number of lawyers in our country is much lower than in other countries. We need to increase these figures. There is a lack of lawyers in some areas. This is already considered a diagnostic element to measure the level of legal protection of citizens in those places. Professional staff should come to the advocacy. Because the issue of personnel is the most important issue in all structures. In general, the view of advocacy in the courts should change. How can we talk about the fate of the person who is defending by the lawyer, if the lawyer is detained behind closed doors and goes through certain deprivations ?!."
